Mobility models play a crucial role in mobility wireless networks with respect to evaluating the network protocols and performances. However, the majority of existing mobility models either does not exhibit realistic movement characteristics or modeling methods are too complex. In this paper, a new mobility model based on Location Attraction (LAMM) is proposed, which utilizes human's clustering features...
With emerging trend in technology wireless networks allow user to travel from one location to another. Mobile Adhoc network (MANET) is one of the subareas of wireless network that dynamically form infrastructure less temporary network. MANET is a collection of intercommunicating mobile nodes forming a temporary network without any centralized administration. Due to the dynamic property of mobile nodes...
The paper mainly presents the analytical discussion of MANET and network survivability research that have been done so far. As MANET were open and complex, system hierarchical model was provided, which converted the traditional survivability analysis into hierarchical relation between the key services and the atomic components. This analysis can be applied in quantitative analysis of MANET survivability.
An increasing number of applications based on Wireless Sensor Networks assume mobile environments(Mobile WSNs). Mobile WSNs propose several converging issues with Mobile Ad-hoc Networks (MANETs) but the peculiarities of their technology and application domain advise a specific theoretical analysis of mobility impact on network connectivity. Network performance depends by several factors; there is...
The process of analyzing available network forensics evidence to determine their meaning and significance can be very involved. It is often necessary to develop a timeline of significant events to obtain an overview of what occurred, to create relational diagrams showing which users are connected to which systems, or to correlate and analyze data to find noteworthy patterns of network traffic. However,...
In dynamic wireless networks, effective modeling on link behavior would lead the network protocol design towards a predictive and reasonable way. Emerging mobile ad hoc network (MANET), however, is of self-organizing and infrastructureless paradigm, where topology dynamics are highly related to many complicated parameters, such as node density, mobility model, and transmission range etc, which make...
Mobile ad hoc networks are self configuring networks where end-to-end connectivity is achieved by utilizing node itself as mobile router. In this paper we present a new approach to investigating the impact of node mobility on network performance based on the analysis of the Brownian motion mobility model. Paper shows how to evaluate the expected path availability where position of nodes changes over...
The performance of Mobile Ad Hoc Networks (MANETs) is influenced by many factors including node mobility, node density, and wireless transmission range. The mobility model representing the moving behavior of mobile nodes plays an important role in performance analysis and simulation of MANETs. In this paper, we first investigate the effect of node mobility on two fundamental characteristics of MANETs:...
Mobile ad hoc network is a hotspot in the wireless networks researching domain, and the routing protocol, which is as the core technology on network layers, is particularly important. By analyzing the working mechanism and key techniques of the Ad Hoc routing models, this paper puts forward a routing protocol based on network radius analysis. First, this paper sets up a LEACH model to analyze the...
In this paper, we derive the general expressions of the throughput capacity scaling of mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs), and find that the strategy of an individual node determines the throughput of an MANET. We show that optimal strategies that maximize the throughput of the network can exist. Based on a game theoretic approach, we further show that the optimal strategies constitute Nash equilibria.
It has been recently shown that the instantaneous average node speed for the random waypoint (RWP) mobility model may not reach a steady state regime due to velocity gradual decaying which can cause inaccurate results in simulations and communication protocol validations for mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs). This paper presents a modification to the RWP model, in which we propose to choose node speeds...
In Mobile Ad Hoc Networks (MANETs), routing is a challenging task due to node mobility, traffic and network size. It is very important to analyze the scalability characteristics of the routing protocols with respect to these parameters. Zone Routing Protocol (ZRP) is considered to be one of the most scalable routing protocols due to its multi-scoping and hybridization features. We propose a general,...
This paper presents an evaluation of IP-based gateway discovery protocols for the interconnection of ad hoc networks to the Internet. There are three proposed internet discovery approaches: reactive, proactive and hybrid. This paper first compares these protocols performances with respect to different frequency of gateway advertisement considering random waypoint mobility model. The main contribution...
MANET is currently a hotspot in the wireless networks researching domain, and the routing protocol, which is as the core technology on network layers, is particularly important. Controlling node energy and increasing network lifetime are two keys to realize the transmission of efficient service for MANET. On the basis of analyzing classical MANET routing protocol, and combining with the idea of min...
Mobility models are often used to evaluate performances of mobile networks through either analysis or simulation. The epoch mobility model is one of important mobility models that can statistically describe mobile behavior in general. Here an epoch is a random length interval during which a node is supposed to move at a constant velocity. However, a border may force a node to change its motion during...
Mobility models characterize mobile users' movements of location, velocity and acceleration for the difficulty to obtain traces in real world. A classification of proposed and applied mobility models for MANET (mobile ad hoc networks) are given in this article firstly. The probability distribution of nodes is a basic foundation for the theoretic research of mobility models for MANET, such as the work...
Soft clustering of the nodes combined with time division multiple access (TDMA) channel access within a cluster has been shown to provide an energy-efficient solution for mobile ad-hoc networks (MANET). Such channel access schemes use a parameter that is critical in determining network performance: the number of frames per superframe, which determines the amount of spatial reuse possible, similar...
Many strategies have been proposed for integrating mobile ad hoc networks and the Internet. A need has been felt for an analytical framework that would facilitate a formal definition and comparison of different integration strategies without actually implementing them in a simulated environment. In this paper, we present an analytical framework based on the concept of a relay path (RP). This model...
In mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs), one of the critical issues consists of the design of routing algorithms that are robust to frequent path disruptions caused by hostspsila mobility. This paper analyzes random walk mobility model, and establishes the relationship between a linkpsilas reliability and current lifetime via a conditional probability model. A path reliable routing algorithm is also developed,...
When a wireless node in an ad hoc network needs Internet access, it must select one gateway from the information sent in the Modified Router Advertisement (MRA) messages. In this paper, we propose an adaptive gateway discovery scheme that dynamically adjusts the frequency of MRA messages. This tuning is related to the mobility of the ad hoc network. The proposed tuning technique is supported by a...
