This paper presents challenges in verifying the design of a space deployable VHF band orthogonal log-periodic dipole array (LPDA). Due to the construction nature of the antenna, operating frequency band, physical dimensions and 1g environment on ground there are a number of challenges in antenna RF measurements and verifications. These are discussed and presented in this paper.
The response of personal exposimeters (PEMs) is studied under diffuse field exposure in indoor environments. A numerical model and a setup for on-body calibration measurements in a reverberation chamber (RC) is proposed for 897–5500 MHz. The proposed numerical simulations are in good agreement with measurements. A difference around 2 dB between their 50% prediction intervals is observed.
Shielding effectiveness is a term that defines the electromagnetic shielding property of a material. The demand of using wireless technologies and higher frequencies in new devices also bring the need to shield the unwanted electromagnetic fields. Therefore determining the shielding effectiveness of materials becomes an important concept. In this study a compact, low-cost RF anechoic box system for...
The evolution of wireless communications requires the development of long-life or sustainable power sources. One method currently receiving increasing attention in current literature, compared to other energy solutions, is the application of Radio-frequency (RF) energy as an alternative energy source for low-power devices. The presence of various wireless services makes a challenge to this technology...
The antenna is an essential part of many electronic systems. Selecting the best antenna may be very important, but selecting the right antenna can be a difficult task, because of variation in the way manufacturers specify and describe them. This paper introduces a method to measure an antenna gain and antenna factor of small loop antennas. It is well known, that the antenna measurement in an anechoic...
An experimental methodology to characterize the RF transmission of human body has been presented. It is a great challenge to ensure that the antennas used in the measurement will not be affected by the presence of the human body tissues, which is the key factor in order to characterize the RF transmission accurately and reliably. The proposed methodology of using tissue-embedded antennas has been...
The use of an array of miniaturized elliptical substrate lenses or mini-lenses, combined with an array of printed antennas, is proposed for plasma imaging applications. Compared with its predecessor, the large hyper hemispherical lens, the new configuration demonstrates reduced sidelobe levels, minimal off-axis aberrations, increased RF bandwidth, and enhanced local oscillator coupling with substrate...
This study has designed a planar dipole antenna for 10 mm square 60 GHz band ultra-small and low-cost modules using any layer interstitial via hole (ALIVH) substrate. The planar dipole antenna is patterned on the top layer of the module. Simulated results show that bandwidth and gain of the proposed module are sufficient for 60 GHz wireless personal area network (WPAN) system. The proposed module...
