We observed the effect of cadmium (Cd group) and cadmium+zinc (Cd/Zn group) in the liver of turkeys after a 71-day exposure. The experimental birds were divided to three groups; control group (Control), group exposed to cadmium (group Cd) as CdCl₂ (aqueous solution, 0.5 mg/kg feed); and group Cd/Zn exposed to the same dose of cadmium as Cd group plus zinc as ZnSO₄ (aqueous solution, 90 mg/kg feed)...
The content of iron, zinc, copper, manganese, lead, and cadmium was determined in the kidney, liver, and abdominal muscle of the brown hare (Lepus europaeus), a species known for its bioindicative potential in environmental quality assessment. The animals assayed were divided into immature (in their first year of life; n=25) and adult (n=39). The hares were acquired in an area situated far away from...
The involvement of some low-molecular thiol compounds in the mechanisms of peroxidative action of cadmium (Cd) and ethanol (EtOH) was studied. Concentrations of reduced glutathione (GSH), metallothionein (Mt) and thiol (-SH) groups in protein and non-protein fractions were assessed in the homogenates of the liver and kidney of rats exposed to Cd (50 Cd/dm³ of drinking water) and EtOH (5 g EtOH/kg...
Tests were carried out on the levels of cadmium, copper, iron and zinc in selected organs (liver, kidneys and spleen) of bank voles (Clethrionomys glareolus, Schreber, 1780) caught in autumn 1998 and 1999 in a number of forests situated at varying distances east and south of Kraków. All the results were compared with the levels of these metals present in voles caught from a control area of Borecka...
The anseriform birds studied in the present work were taken from Słońsk Reserve, the Baljic Seacoast and from a breeding farm in Kołuda Wielka. The contents of metals (lead Pb, cadmium Cd, zinc Zn, copper Cu) in the livers and kidneys of male and female ducks (Anas platyrhynchos, mallard; Clangula hyemalis, long-tailed duck) and geese (Anser anser, greylag goose; A.anser f.domestica, domestic goose)...
For three months rat livers absorbed coal dust containing low or high concentrations of heavy metals. We found that these concentrations of heavy metals significantly decrease cytochrome P-450 content in hepatic microsomes, and that this decrease correlates with the concentration of heavy metals. Furthermore, we have shown that only coal dust with high heavy metal content produces such structural...
Inhibition by ethanol of the activities of lysosomal exoglycosidases in stomach, small intestine, liver and brain of rats exposed to cadmium (Ca ) was determined. Out of the glycosidases tested the most distinct effect of Cd2+ and ethanol administered to the rats in vivo was observed in the small intestinal mucosa in a decreasing orden N-acetyl-^-hexosaminidase, p-galactosidase and a-fucosidase.
