A new formula of power factor is defined in this paper. The non-symmetrical and non-sinusoidal situations may be characterized by analyzing the value of power factor, defined by this formula. This definition is linked by the fact that an unbalanced and non-linear electrical consumer consumes a part of available active power.
This contribution presents the main ideas of the IEEE Standard 1459 on definitions for the measurement of electric power quantities under sinusoidal and nonsinusoidal, single-phase and poly-phase, balanced and unbalanced situations. The motivation of the Standard is discussed. The problems encountered in trying to generalize the well known concepts of active power, reactive power, apparent power and...
This paper investigates the main similarities and discrepancies among three important current decompositions proposed for the consideration of unbalanced and/or non linear three-phase three-wire power circuits. The considered approaches were the so called FBD Theory, the pq-Theory and the Conservative Power Theory (CPT), recently presented by Tenti et al. Such decompositions and related definitions...
