We explore a novel approach to perform decoding-order optimization in the vertical Bell Labs layered space-time (V-BLAST) architecture. Allowing for simultaneous transmission of multiple, separately encoded data streams, the V-BLAST transmit-receive scheme applies to the uplink of a multi-user communication system. A multi-antenna receiver decodes data streams successively, dealing with inter-stream...
An iterative noncoherent detection method of coded and symbol interleaved differential space-time modulation (DSTM) is proposed in flat Rayleigh fading channels. Like differential phase shift keying (DPSK), DSTM can be considered as a recursive convolutional code. A soft-output a posteriori probability (APP) decoder of DSTM is proposed in flat Rayleigh fading channels. In the decoder, multiple-symbol...
This paper presents the outage analysis of multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) block-fading channels with nearest neighbour decoding and mismatched channel state information at the receiver (CSIR). Based on mismatched decoding arguments, we demonstrate the achievability of the generalised outage probability, the probability that the generalised mutual information (GMI) is less than the target data...
We analyze a wireless communication system in which channel coding is applied to both physical and upper layer. In this scenario, we study the splitting of redundancy between the coding schemes applied to the two layers. Considering a frequency-flat, slowly varying fading channel, we derive the optimum splitting value for a given signalling format. The theoretical analysis is validated by means of...
This letter derives a simple and uniform closed-form expression for the asymptotic outage probability of the decode-and-forward relaying transmission in generalized fading channels, including Rayleigh, Ricean, Nakagami-q, and Nakagami-m fading. Various numerical results show that the derived uniform outage probabilities are tight approximation in the high SNR regime. The closed-form expression is...
In this paper, we study the two-user Gaussian fading Multiple Access Channel (MAC) with cooperative encoders. Two different scenarios are studied: the Gaussian fading MAC with a common message, and the Gaussian fading MAC with conferencing encoders. The throughput capacity region of these channels with partial Channel State Information (CSI) at the transmitters (CSIT) and perfect CSI at the receiver...
This paper studies the outage performance of blockfading channels with imperfect channel state information at the receiver (CSIR). Using mismatched decoding error exponents, we prove the achievability of the generalised outage probability, the probability that the generalised mutual information is less than the rate. Then, using nearest neighbour decoding, we study the generalised outage probability...
A non-binary low density parity check (LDPC) coded modulation solution coupling with signal space diversity (SSD) and symbol interleaver is proposed to get performance gains over fading channels for high order modulation. Compared to the traditional binary channel code with bit interleaved coded modulation with iterative demodulation and decode (BICM-ID),it can efficiently avoid the iteration demodulation...
We consider a source-destination pair assisted by multiple decode-and-forward relays without channel state information at transmitter (CSIT). We investigate three schemes exploiting spatial diversity including multiple-relay cooperation (MR-Coop), conventional multiple-relay relaying (MR-Relay), and multiple-input-single-output (MISO). The total power is equally allocated to transmission partners...
In high data rate OFDM systems, channel diversity can be a major concern. We revisit multi-dimensional constellation design, or short block spreading, and propose several improvements: a fine tuned Chernoff bound, a full optimization using Givens rotations, and a reduced complexity algorithm that exploits symmetry without loss of optimality. In fact, the problem's complexity increases exponentially...
In modern wireless communication systems, forward error correcting codes are employed for efficient transmission of data in noisy environments. Achieving a very less bit error rate (BER) has been the major task in the field of error control coding. The recently developed Raptor codes, which are a class of Fountain codes and the extension of LT codes, tend to give better performance than the low density...
A technique intended to improve the performance of bit-interleaved coded modulations over non Gaussian channels is presented. It introduces signal space diversity by the means of modifications to the constellation mapper and to the corresponding demapper. A rotation of the constellation is followed by a signal space component interleaving. Iterative processing at the receiver side is shown to provide...
We use DAIS to obtain very low WER/BER estimates for linear block codes and SPA decoding on the Rayleigh frequency-flat slow-fading AWGN channel using BPSK modulation with interleaving. DAIS results for the (96, 50) LDPC code are compared with standard MC results where practical, demonstrating that DAIS obtains reliable WER/BER estimates to very low values in practical time frames.
In this paper, a novel approach using frame-based iterative channel fading parameters estimation technique from the received data sequence exploiting orthogonal property of the space-time block (STB) code is proposed. For practical implementation of STB code, the receiver requires to estimate these parameters. Regarding this type of estimation, the inherent orthogonal nature of STB code can be exploited...
