There is need for reliable, low cost detectors to continuously monitor the air quality in presence of hazardous gases, harmful for human health. In this work we demonstrate how the use of different type of metal oxide one-dimensional sensors based on ZnO and SnO2 could provide high sensing capabilities together with differentiated responses to gases. The sensors can then be used together into a cost-effective...
The Al2O3 modified ZnO nanostructure with 1:9 ratio was synthesized at 500°C using solid-state reaction technique. The prepared nanostructure material was characterized with XRD and FE-SEM technique. XRD indicate the formation of wurtzite phase of ZnO. FE-SEM confirms the formation of hexagonal shaped rod like morphology. The sensing characteristic of the material was tested using ethanol gas.
Zinc oxide (ZnO) nanorod arrays were deposited on to the soda-lime glass substrates by wet chemical route using zinc acetate as precursor. The structural and surface morphological properties of the ZnO nanorod arrays (ZNAs) were investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) respectively. The XRD pattern revealed wurtzite crystal structures of ZNAs, preferentially...
In this paper, we investigate various surface structures of oxygen adsorption on Pd doping Zn-terminated ZnO (0001) by DFT. The results show that oxygen atom prefers to be adsorbed on the H sites of Pd substituting Zn atom of first Zn-O bilayers. The calculated PDOS indicates that a stronger interaction between adsorbed O2p and Pd4d orbitals has been happened at near the Fermi level. Finally, the...
The effect of UV irradiation on ZnO thin film based gas sensor was investigated. Zinc oxide thin films were deposited on an alkali free glass substrate by magnetron sputtering system using zinc target. The UV irradiation of the ZnO thin films was measured to understand the change of microstructure, electrical properties, optical properties and gas sensing characteristics. The X-ray diffraction patterns...
ZnO tetrapods with a cross-sectional size of about 200-1000 nm were synthesized via an oxidation reaction technique. The sensors based on ZnO tetrapods and platinum impregnated ZnO tetrapods were fabricated and investigated for ethanol sensing properties. The gas sensing properties of the sensors were investigated for ethanol concentration of 50-1000 ppm at different operating temperatures. It was...
In this paper, we present our recent study on the fabrication and characterization of ammonia gas sensors based on quartz thickness shear mode (TSM) resonators employing ZnO nanowires as the sensitive coating layer. c-axis vertically aligned ZnO nanowire arrays were synthesized on the quartz resonator through a simple hydrothermal synthesis route. The ZnO nanowires were characterized by X-ray diffraction...
