In this paper a hybrid system able to provide focused microwave radiometry and deep brain hyperthermia was experimentally tested. The systempsilas main module is an ellipsoidal conductive wall cavity which acts as a beamformer, focusing the electromagnetic energy on the medium of interest. The systempsilas microwave radiometry component has been extensively studied theoretically and experimentally...
We are developing a microwave hyperthermia system for the treatment of chestwall recurrence of breast cancer. To improve power control of heating applicators, we intend to measure tumor temperature noninvasively during treatment, using radiometry. We are designing single-arm Archimedean spirals for use as receive antennas with a radiometer collecting thermal radiation from different tissue volumes...
The subcutaneous temperature distribution of a simulated hyperthermic treatment is retrieved from a set of noisy radiometric measurements at six equally spaced frequencies in the range 1.5?6.5 GHz. Temperature profiles reconstructed by the combined use of both the singular value decomposition of the radiometric integral equation and Kalman filtering are shown.
A new type of microstrip slot applicator with a circular aperture has been designed for clinical applications in microwave hyperthermia treatment and microwave radiometry for temperature measurement. We present the frequency study of the microwave performance of this new applicator, measured on a lossy medium according to its parameters (substrate, circular aperture etc.).
