The use of inverse-multiplexing with diverse-path routing techniques in transport networks is expected to satisfy the traffic demands at the expense of lower capacity requirements. However, when the traffic between two nodes is routed over multiple paths, the different flows have different arrival times at the destination node. In order to compensate for this difference, known as differential delay,...
In the OpMiGua hybrid network, whether packets follow a circuit or a packet path is decided on a packet-by-packet basis. Packets following a circuit are given absolute priority with no packet loss or jitter. Packets following a packet switched path are statistically multiplexed. Circuits are wavelength-paths in a Wavelength Routed Optical Network (WRON), resulting in bandwidth granularity of a wavelength...
Numerical analysis about the influence of delay time increase induced by the capacity upgrading by inverse multiplexing with parallel routes, comparing with the case whether the existed route is still utilized or not.
We present the use of swept wavelength interferometry for distributed fiber-optic temperature measurements in a nuclear reactor. The sensors consisted of 2-m segments of commercially available, single mode optical fibers. The interrogation technique is based on measuring the spectral shift of the intrinsic Rayleigh backscatter signal along the optical fiber and converting the spectral shift to temperature.
In this work we investigate the effects of multiple access interference (MAI) and polarization mode dispersion (PMD) in optical code division multiplexing (OCDM) lightpaths. These paths are determined by the data encoding with non-coherent optical orthogonal codes (OOC), using a sequence inversion keying (SIK) optical correlator system. Our results show the impact of MAI effects and PMD constraint...
We designed and built a novel all-optical re-timing, re-amplifying, and re-shaping (3R) regeneration system based on terahertz optical asymmetric demultiplexers (TOADs) developed in our laboratory. The system is capable of parallel processing multiple wavelengths, a feature which will significantly improve the scalability of current wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) networks. Performance against...
In this paper, we study bandwidth management of a wireless/optical based access/metro network in support of voice and data services. For voice services, we use a finite state Markov Chain to estimate the blocking probability of voice circuits over an Adaptive modulation and coding wireless channel, as a function of the channel parameters. For data services, we evaluate a rate matching and a buffer...
This paper describes a new path computation model in Multi-protocol Label Switching (MPLS) and Generalized MPLS (GMPLS) networks. It introduces a path computation element (PCE), which is functionally separate from label switching routers (LSRs). The Path Computation Element (PCE) is an entity that is capable of computing a network path or route based on a network graph, and applying computational...
