A fast approach of adaptive loading for Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access (OFDM) is proposed. The energy consumption intensity (ECI), which denotes the energy efficiency of the subchannels is introduced here. According to the analysis of ECI, the proposed algorithm allocates as much as possible bits to each subchannel constrained by the initial ECI threshold, then it picks the bit with...
Power optimization techniques are becoming increasingly important in wireless system design since battery technology has not kept up with the demand of mobile devices. They are also critical to interference management in wireless systems because interference usually results from both aggressive spectral reuse and high power transmission and severely limits system performance. In this paper, we develop...
In this paper we propose a novel multicarrier (MC) architecture to address the energy saving problem in WLAN applications. We refer to this scheme as hybrid filtered multitone (H-FMT). Depending on the channel condition, H-FMT wisely switches between Filtered Multitone Modulation (FMT) with orthogonal pulses and adaptive orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (A-OFDM). We show that H-FMT provides...
An energy-efficient fast Fourier transform (FFT) algorithm for cognitive radio communication systems uses a homogeneous multiprocessor system on chip. The algorithm allows for pruning of inputs such that algorithm complexity can be reduced whenever several of the FFT inputs are zero. Results show that the pruning algorithm significantly reduces energy consumption compared to a nonpruned version.
Based on OFDM and Single Frequency Network architecture (SFN), DVB-T systems can combine signals coming from several transmitters yielding to a diversity gain. The network planning for such systems has a great impact to quality of service and costs. This paper presents a network planning approach for DVB-T services and focuses the investigation on the optimisation of the network deployment in terms...
An adaptive power allocation algorithm called two-hop power allocation (THPA) is proposed to guarantee two-hop data rate balance in regenerative OFDM relay systems. The aim of this algorithm is power efficiency at the transmission node. The base station (BS) or relay station (RS) adjust power adaptively in terms of the difference between the first hop link data rate and the second hop link data rate...
