This paper presents the design architecture of a new optical switching device named Protection Switching Device (PSD) for providing protection and restoration against fiber failures/faults in the distribution region of passive optical network (PON). The developed PSD prototypes are employed at the customer end, just before the optical network units (ONUs) to ensure the data flow continuously due to...
In this paper, we present access control system (ACS) a cost effective protection for fiber fault identification in fiber to the home (FTTH) passive optical network (PON). To achieve better protection, ACS can access by remote host via Internet or LAN, with the specification available a complete system can be made with 24 man-hours. Our solution is shown to be effective in improving live-fiber services.
We propose and demonstrate a seamless maintenance and protection scheme based on remotely reconfigurable remote node. Protection for fiber failures and a centralized optical time-domain reflectometry test for preventive maintenance can be achieved within 90 ms by using instantaneous optical powering at the central office, while maintaining the passive nature of the passive optical network.
In this paper reliability performance analysis of some representative protection schemes for Passive Optical Networks PONs is presented. We study three PON architectures defined by ITU-T as well as two architectures that provide reliable connections to business customers and compare connection availability in order to select the most promising protection scheme for the future access solution. Our...
