We propose and experimentally demonstrate a method of choosing optical delay time by calculating normalized autocorrelation function of channel noise to achieve optimal OSNR monitoring performance. Up to 29 dB monitoring range with error ≤±0.5 dB for 112 Gbit/s PM-QPSK signal is obtained. We also demonstrate the method is applicable to the filters with different bandwidths and different shapes.
We demonstrate in-band optical signal to noise monitoring of an 1.28 Tbit/s signal by implementing an interferometer inside a reconfigurable wavelength selective switch based on liquid crystal on silicon technology.
We characterize the effects of neighboring channels on the accuracy of OSNR monitoring with a fractional-bit-delay Michelson interferometer. We find errors Gt 10 dB when the center channel is flanked by higher-power constant-wave neighbors.
