We experimentally demonstrate a novel method to further improve the tolerance of 42.7-Gb/s partial-DPSK to tight optical filtering by applying an optimized power imbalance, allowing the signal to pass 20 times 50-GHz filters with < 1 dB penalty.
OSNR penalties demonstrate excellent filtering and power divergence performance for low cost tunable filter access ROADMs, with resulting performance reported at 10 Gb/s (36 nodes) and 40 Gb/s (8 nodes).
The transmission performance improvement of low-cost conventional directly modulated laser (DML) sources, fabricated for operation at 2.5 Gb/s but modulated at 10 Gb/s is presented and experimentally demonstrated. Performance improvement is achieved by electronic feed-forward and decision-feedback equalization as well as offset optical filtering at the receiver end. Experimental studies consider both...
