Nowadays, Internet video is the dominant internettraffic. DASH is an adaptive video streaming technique introducedto enable high quality video delivery over HTTP. In homenetworks, multiple video streams will compete for bandwidth, thus leading to poor performance and impacting the receivedquality of experience. In this paper we introduce a new techniqueto address this issue at the home network gateway...
Wireless standardization activities such as Bluetooth V4.x have led to an explosive growth in innovative short-range wireless devices capable of providing various services to assist everyday life. Allowing Machine-to-Machine (M2M) communication between these M2M devices also enable new commercial service opportunities. Typically, short range M2M devices need another capable device such as a smartphone...
Wireless standardization activities such as the Bluetooth V4.x (Bluetooth smart) have led to an explosive growth in innovative short-range wireless devices capable of providing various services to assist everyday life. Allowing Machine-to-Machine (M2M) communication between these M2M devices also enable new commercial service opportunities. The M2M service providers including telecom carriers may...
With the development of the Internet, the requirement of the unified network computing and storage will continue to increase, which will make the high speed transmitting technology to be adopted more widely. With the advantages of high speed and reliable, InfiniBand technology could load other protocol data units, and bring the convergence of InfiniBand and Ethernet. In this paper the conversion technologies...
We design and implement a live migration acceleration system (LMAS) that supports long distance live migration by using parallel TCP. Our prototype system works perfectly for VMware VMotion and Citrix XenMotion without modifying the hypervisors. Experiments show that LMAS reduces total time of long distance live migration effectively.
The availability of end devices of peer-to-peer storage and backup systems has been shown critical for usability and for system reliability in practice. This has led to the adoption of hybrid architectures composed of both peers and servers. Such architectures mask the instability of peers thus approaching the performances of client-server systems while providing scalability at a low cost. In this...
This paper presents Eureka: a generic methodology of measuring the instantaneous (per second) bandwidth usage of networked games and applications in run time. Eureka starts with constructing a priority queue and sending low priority traffic through it. Then, the application under study is started with its packets marked as high priority. These packets therefore displace the previously existing low...
Large scale scientific data transfers are central to scientific processes. Data from large experimental facilities have to be moved to local institutions for analysis or often data needs to be moved between local clusters and large supercomputing centers. In this paper, we propose and evaluate a network overlay architecture to enable high-throughput, on-demand, coordinated data transfers over wide-area...
