This paper presents a simulation and experimental study on power sharing between batteries and supercapacitors. Filters are used as a frequency splitter to share the power demanded by the load between the battery and the supercapacitor according to their dynamics. Experimental tests were carried out on a test bench to validate the proposed simulation.
Day by day there is increase in use of renewable sources like solar, wind for generating power because of decrease in availability of non renewable resources of energy like coal, natural gas, oil and tremendous developments in energy storage devices. Microgrids incorporate large amount of non conventional and conventional distributed generation (DG) that are connected to the system either directly...
Now a days, wind and solar energy are most commonly used as renewable energy sources (RES). These sources highly depend on environment and geographical conditions of a particular location. Main drawback of RES is randomness in power production due to their inherent uncertainty nature. Hence, energy management is difficult task for these sources. Wind, photovoltaic (PV) and sodium nickel chloride (SNC)...
This paper presents a modified approach for the control of DC voltages and State of Charges (SOC) of batteries in an interconnected cluster of DC microgrids. First, the model of a DC microgrid is reviewed, and then the proposed control method is presented. This method is composed of two compensation terms that are introduced in the secondary control level in the hierarchical control framework of the...
Energy management and control of a PV array and a battery based DC Microgrid is presented in this paper. Design and operation of PV and battery DC-DC converters are discussed in detail. Radiation input to the solar array is an actual variation which was measured in a normal sunny day. Battery is the main component responsible of keeping the DC bus voltage at a constant value by charging or discharging...
According to growing of DC loads such as LEDs and computers, DC Microgrids will play an undeniable role in power systems in future. One of important power sources in DC Microgrids is photo voltaic (PV) unit which usually is composed of PV panel, super-capacitor (SC) and battery. In this paper, using models of PV panel, SC and battery, an improved method is suggested for providing the load power by...
The battery is the most common method of energy storage in stand alone solar systems; the most popular being the valve regulated lead acid battery (VRLA) due to its low cost and ease of availability. Photovoltaics are not an ideal source for charging batteries as their output is heavily dependent on weather conditions. Therefore, when batteries are used in photovoltaic systems, the performance characteristics...
