Wireless local area networks (WLANs) are increasingly popular because of their flexibility. This spreading of WLANs comes with an increasing use of multimedia applications. Such applications are bandwidth sensitive and require a quality of service (QoS) that guarantees high performance transmission of continuous data. This requirement is the focus of the new enhanced IEEE 802.11e standard protocol...
We propose a new scheme for multiclass packet scheduling which is a variant of EDF (earliest deadline first). The model corrects EDF domino effect in a nearly-overloaded system. Simulations results show that the proposed model performs better than classical EDF by enhancing QoS for soft-real time traffic without significant degradation of less constrained traffic.
Wireless network coding has the potential to enhance the capacity of wireless mesh networks (WMNs). However, most of the work considering the practical deployment of network coding in WMNs considers only IEEE 802.11 based medium access control (MAC) layers. The recent emergence of sophisticated MAC standards supporting WMNs (e.g. IEEE 802.16) make it necessary to view the deployment issues for network...
In this paper a cross-layer scheduling and slot allocation scheme is proposed, which takes into account both the powerline channel conditions and the delay requirements of multimedia users in order to make slot reservations. The proposed mechanism aims at providing both fairness and efficient slot utilization, since the available free slots are shared proportionally between the contending users of...
A principal factor in sensor network design is energy efficiency. In this work, we propose to extend the lifetime of sensor networks using appropriate choice of sensor node distribution. The key idea of our scheme is to deploy more nodes in areas of extensive energy usage. Using this scheme of sensor node distribution, we use probabilistic angular routing to route data packets from the sensor nodes...
This paper proposes a fast forward medium access control protocol (FFMAC) for quality-of-service (QoS) guarantee in multihop IEEE 802.11s wireless mesh networks with multiple channels. To the best of our knowledge, the proposed protocol is the first one which considers the multihop and multichannel issues simultaneously. It provides higher priority for real-time applications, while remaining the distributed...
Many real-time communication protocols have been studied to guarantee the communication requirements of distributed real-time systems. But, current techniques lack all or most of these requirements specially bounded message delivery time. In this paper we have proposed a Mac layer protocol called RDM+ with concepts similar to Round Data Mailer multi layer protocol. Our simulation results show that...
