Multilevel converters are very interesting alternatives for medium and high power applications. This paper presents a new configuration of multicell converters. The main advantages of the proposed converter, in comparison with conventional Flying Capacitor Multicell (FCM) and Stacked Multicell (SM) converters, are doubling the number of output voltage levels and the RMS, improving the output voltage...
This paper studies the utilization of PWM voltage source converters in Distribution Static Synchronous Compensator (D-STATCOM) for voltage sag mitigation. Three different voltage source converter topologies based D-STATCOM; namely the two level, three level neutral point clamped and the three level flying capacitor are investigated and compared. The comparison is drawn based on harmonic profile, response...
A novel hybrid cascade H-bridge converter is presented in which cascaded H-bridge cells and one three-phase two-level converter with a flying capacitor are connected together. The output voltage will be increased while the number of isolated DC bus can be reduced. PWM control method and flying capacitor voltage balancing algorithm are analyzed. Simulation results verified the proposed performance.
