This paper presents a model which can be used to simulate the load acceptance behavior of a diesel generating set. Unlike traditional thermal plants, generating sets (gen-sets) are often expected to undergo large rapid changes in load. A gen-set with a low inertia will naturally be more susceptible to changes in speed. This problem is compounded with the introduction of turbocharged engines. Although...
This paper presented a real-time simulation model of a heavy duty unit pump turbocharged diesel engine. It was based on the CRTD model of enDYNA provided by Tesis. Steady state and transient state simulations were conducted using Matlab/Simulink. The results indicate that the accuracy is acceptable and it can be used in the hardware-in-loop simulation and the ECU test.
With the introduction of emissions legislation to industrial engines, along with customer expectation of increased power density and decreased steady-state fuel consumption, modern diesel engines are experiencing less favourable transient performance when subjected to a step increase in load. When a DC motor driven alternator is used for laboratory tests the transient speed deviations are considerably...
