A method for efficiency optimization of boost converter applied in wind turbine with permanent magnet generator (PMG) is proposed in this paper. This method gives the best results when output power of generator is less than rated value. Its validation is verified through simulation and experimental results.
A small scale wind energy conversion system has tremendous diversity of use and operating conditions, and consequently is evolving rapidly along with the large scale wind energy conversion system for generation of electricity in either stand-alone or grid connected applications. In recent years, the grid connected small wind turbine industry is primarily dominated by the Permanent Magnet Generator...
Large-scale permanent magnet generators with full power electronic converters are of increasing interest to many wind turbine manufacturers. These systems offer an efficient and reliable solution for offshore and low wind sites. However, the advantages of these generators necessitate a system design approach when selecting a power electronic drive and designing to meet the toughest grid code elements...
In this paper, two three-phase three-level neutral point clamped (NPC) converters connected back-to-back are used for a direct drive wind power generator. A permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG) is used as the generator, which is driven by the wind turbine. Main problem of voltage unbalance in each electrolyte capacitor is controlled by using a simple chopper control circuit. A simple hardware...
This paper encompasses the study of modelling and design of WECS, using a wind turbine with known dynamic characteristics and a permanent magnet synchronous generator driven by a back to back power converter topology. The dynamic modeling allows to know the response of the turbine generator system in the whole range of operation. In this study, it is proposed a variable structure control scheme with...
This paper presents Maximum Power Point Control for variable speed wind turbine driven permanent-magnet generator. The wind turbine generator is operated such that the rotor speed varies according to wind speed to adjust the duty cycle of power converter and maximizes Wind Energy Conversion System (WECS) efficiency. The maximum power point for each speed value is traced using Maximum Power Point Tracking...
A wind generator system that employs a boost chopper and a permanent magnet synchronous generator is studied. By replacing the main circuit of generator and boost chopper with the equivalent circuit, the power and DC output voltage are obtained as a function of duty ratio of the boost chopper and generator rotational frequency. Maximum power from the generator characterized by the load and optimum...
