A stratified structure which supports the propagation of infrared surface waves is designed. The dispersion and impedance characteristics of the surface waves are studied in detail for an array of square patches. The field propagation of basic TE and TM modes at different frequencies are studied. The impedance of the unit cell is evaluated for the frequency of 28.24 THz (λ=10.6 µm).
Experimental data of the radio wave propagation over high inductive structure “ice-salt water” in the decameter range of a field radiated by vertical dipole on a distance of up to 1.2 km are considered. It is shown that the surface electromagnetic waves (SEW) were attenuated less than the “ground” ray. An analysis of the field of radiation from the vertical dipole reveals the presence of a wave with...
This paper proposes a compact high impedance surface based on interdigital capacitors. Compared with another surface which follows a similar compacting principle, the new structure increases the interdigital capacitance and obtains a lower resonance frequency. This performance is confirmed using several measurement methods, involving plane-wave incidence, coupling between small monopoles and suspended...
Microstrip Antennas (MSAs) consist of a metallic radiating patch on one side of thin dielectric substrate and other side is ground plane. Most important advantages of MSAs are low profile, light weight and compatibility with integrated circuit technology. MSAs are used in mobile communication, satellite communication, radar, direct broadcasting, global positioning systems and remote sensing. The major...
In this paper, the design of a compact planar bandpass filter above a defected ground plane is presented. The filter is designed as a combination of microstrip resonators and exploits the properties of a planar electromagnetic bandgap (EBG) structure patterned unto the ground plane of the printed circuit board material to provide a very wide stopband of up to 5 times the fundamental frequency. The...
The concept of a magneto-impedance (MI) effect in magnetic amorphous wires is put forward. At certain frequencies, the wire impedance is highly responsive to magnetic properties, owing to the dependency of the skin depth on magnetic permeability. The theoretical analysis of the MI effect is based on the exact expression for the impedance of a magnetic wire in which the dynamic permeability related...
