Scheduling algorithms have significant role in providing of the quality of service (QoS) in data networks. Mostly, service rate is considered as an isolating parameter in the scheduling algorithms. However, when a delay-sensitive and bursty session such as video streaming or interactive gaming is scheduled by these rate-based servers, the imposed delay may be much more than an acceptable threshold...
We propose a new scheme for multiclass packet scheduling which is a variant of EDF (earliest deadline first). The model corrects EDF domino effect in a nearly-overloaded system. Simulations results show that the proposed model performs better than classical EDF by enhancing QoS for soft-real time traffic without significant degradation of less constrained traffic.
Wireless access networks such as IEEE 802.16 employ a multi-rate physical layer. Such physical layer designs rely on a user-defined link adaptation mechanism that changes the coding and modulation schemes, thus the transmission rate, in order to maintain link reliability at a desired level under different channel conditions. The multirate operation has a significant effect on the fairness of the services...
Fairness in traffic management can improve the isolation between traffic streams, offer a more predictable performance, eliminate transient bottlenecks, mitigate the effect of certain kinds of denial-of-service attacks, and serve as a critical component of a quality-of-service strategy to achieve certain guaranteed services such as delay bounds and minimum bandwidths. In this paper, we choose a popular...
