This study is concerned with the higher order macroscopic traffic flow modeling and simulation of traffic flow on junctions. More precisely, we deal with a generic class of second order models, known in the literature as the GSOM family which embeds a large variety of traffic models. While classical approaches focus on the Eulerian point-of-view, here we recast the model using its Lagrangian coordinates...
With the explicit consideration of user heterogeneity, i.e. each user has a different value of time (VOT), this paper examines system efficiency and social equity of redistribution of toll revenue in a bi-mode transportation service system. Three mode choice equilibrium models are built without road congesting pricing, with road congesting pricing and with the combination of road congesting pricing...
The Full Velocity Difference Model of traffic flow is extended by taking into account the leading acceleration. The method of linear stability analysis is applied to the new car following model, which shows the stability range of the improved model is obviously larger than FVD and FVAD model. Numerical simulation shows that the extended model can improve the traffic flow by reducing traffic jam.
With technology development of Electric Vehicles (EVs), whole vehicle charging will be the main method of EVs adding energy in the future. The whole vehicle charging station provides charging services by off-broad chargers for EVs, According to characteristics of whole vehicle charging station, this paper presents a mathematical model based on the queue theory of operations research to optimize the...
The two-land city traffic in one direction considering bay bus station is investigated based on a modified 1-D pipe-flow model numerically. The source function is proposed to describe the phenomena of vehicles changing ways and the motion rule of traffic flow is introduced. The problem of the miscible traffic flow is solved by citing the stochastic bus-entering-stop probability. The optimistic length...
Location Set Covering Problem (LSCP) is a traditional problem in the location literature. LSCP is used in locating fire stations, computer networks, and many other service facilities. This paper proposes a covering problem with variable radii. In this problem, the cost to establish a facility is a monotonically increasing function of distance to the farthest covered node by the facility. The problem...
An initially homogeneous traffic flow will change into a stable traffic flow with fixed speed, density and flow rate, whatever the initially state is free flow or oversaturated flow. The traffic demand on the road changes with the expected travel time, which was obtained by the Full Velocity Difference model. The simulation results show the final state is an stable, unsaturated traffic flow.
Car-following model is the vital portion of traffic flow theory which is the foundation for simulation, capacity, control, safety, and ITS. A scientific traffic flow model can properly deal with the severe conflicts between traffic application and demand , efficiently analyse and solve some actual traffic matters. Since the last decade of 20th century , researchers on various fields have recognized...
Lots of researches were focus on aerodynamic characters of the head, top and tail of vehicle in the past, but researches on bottom of vehicle were quite rare. This has been changed in these days. Optimization of aerodynamics via shape of vehicle was limited by modern automotive styling. So the focus has been moved to bottom of vehicle. In current work, the aerodynamic influence of ground clearance...
Most literatures of Inventory-Routing problems find the solutions by simulation, but few solve the real case problem of logistics companies. This research will apply some specific real logistics company's operating data to study the Inventory-Routing problem. This study first develops a mathematical model for this Inventory-Routing problem, next applies Savings method, 2-opt heuristic method and 1-1...
This paper presents a system entropy model for optimizing the number of tollbooths at highway toll plazas. Highways usually experience severe traffic congestion/jams at toll plazas since vehicles need to stop and wait for toll collection. It is noted that the number of tollbooths directly influences the traffic congestion. In order to obtain the optimal number of tollbooths, the concept of system...
The unscented Kalman filter (UKF) has become a new technique used in a number of nonlinear estimation application. Its application process includes calculating and transmitting the mean and covariance; making use of the forecast sample points and weighing calculation to forecast the mean and covariance; forecasting measurement value and covariance; at last, calculating the UKF gain, renewing state...
This paper is focusing on rollover prevention to provide a heavy vehicle with the ability to resist overturning moments generated during cornering. A combined yaw-roll model including the roll dynamics of unsprung masses is studied. This model is nonlinear with respect to the velocity of the vehicle. In our model the velocity is handled as an LPV scheduling parameter. The linear parameter-varying...
This paper presents a new controller design method based on the data-mining polynomial algorithm. We show application of a polynomial data-mining algorithm to controller design, where an input-state linearized polynomial vehicle model is developed for a very low speed operation and without introducing any process with fudge factor, control inputs of nonlinear system are obtained in the original coordinate...
