In the series connected wind turbine generators, it is hard to keep the tip speed ratios always constant when the wind velocity flowing to one of the wind turbines changes suddenly. In this paper, the dynamic performances of the tip speed ratios are discussed and a measure to improve the system performances is shown.
Growing depletion of natural resources and the Kyoto Protocol have aroused global attention to renewable energies. In Taiwan, the goal of real power generation from renewable energies is 4% of total generation in 2012 and 18% in 2020. Although renewable energies can mitigate the green gas effect, penetration of these distributed generations may change the operation scheme in the utility. One of the...
Dynamic performances of a wind turbine generating system consisting of series connected wind generators with parallel connected bypass diodes at rectified DC output terminals and a current source thyristor inverter are discussed. It is shown that the tip speed ratio of the individual turbine can be controlled almost constant with the proposed method, making an effective operation of the system possible.
This paper discusses the modeling of a direct-driven wind energy conversion system with a synchronous generator, a diode rectifier, a boost converter and the resistor and capacitor load. In the paper, a way to establish a real time model of the system is described, a real time model of the system is established, and the dynamic results are shown. The static simulation results and the dynamic simulation...
Steady-state performances of an integrated wind turbine generating system connected to a DC transmission system with an externally commutated thyristor inverter are discussed. The relationships between the DC transmission line voltage and the powers at the connecting points for the grids are revealed. It is shown that the operating range of the DC transmission line voltage, which is varied with fluctuations...
A new topology for improving the reliability of a wind farm consisting of a set of wind turbine generators and a current-source thyristor inverter with series connected rectified outputs of the generators is proposed, and the basic characteristics of the whole system are explored from computer simulation and experimental results. In the proposed method, a diode is connected in parallel with each output...
Low and medium power wind energy conversion systems (WECS) are expected to be simple, low cost and reliable. They are usually implemented with fixed pitch wind turbines. In such a case, operation with variable speed for increased capture of wind energy requires a power electronics converter capable of adjusting the shaft speed. This is done by controlling the active power drawn from the generator...
DC bus voltage is used as the main control variable in many industrial power electronic devices for renewable energy applications with energy storage. However, when the dc voltage varies rapidly, the performances of the system can be affected. This paper presents theoretical analysis and experimental investigation of a hybrid grid-connected photovoltaic/wind energy system in which the dc bus voltage...
To provide renewable energy to stand alone applications the generation system should be composed of different types of energy sources to make better use of the natural resources in these applications. A common practice is to combine wind and solar PV energies in the so called hybrid renewable systems. Due to the long distance, and difficult access the overall system used in these applications must...
