Existing uplink scheduling schemes at subscriber station (SS) in WiMAX suffer from problems like waste of resources and greater access delay for VoIP services. We propose an efficient uplink scheduling scheme to solve above mentioned problems. The SS uses two reserved bits of generic MAC header of IEEE 802.16d to record the voice status of current time unit and informs the base station (BS) without...
IEEE 802.16e, a broadband wireless access technology that provides high speed Internet access and multimedia services has seen very significant growth in recent times. With the due rapid deployment of WiMAX, there would be a growing demand for efficient support of voice applications. The performance of voice over IP services depends on a proper scheduling algorithm combined with a proper voice encoder...
This paper evaluates the QoS performance of transporting voice using WiMAX MBS (multicast/broadcast service). Our results demonstrate that the proposed MBS architecture can address several design issues arising from the mobility of the relay stations and the mobile stations. The service architecture is feasible for voice transport in the WiMAX multi-hop network.
This paper presents the results of our computer simulation for delays experienced by voice packets over WiMAX 802.16e protocol running over an enterprise packet network connected to public internet. In the simulation we analyzed the effect of packet size, core network link speed, Internet service provider link speed, wireless network link speed, wireless distance, base station range, and distance...
The IEEE 802.16 system called WiMAX (Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access) provides quality of service (QoS) of several types for different service. The WiMAX is expected to support QoS for real time application, such as Voice over IP (VoIP). In this paper, when network congestion occurs, the VoIP bit-rate needs to be adapted to achieve the best speech quality. We propose a new scheme called...
