In sufficiently large heterogeneous overlays message loss and delays are likely to occur. This has a significant impact on overlay routing, especially on longer paths. The existing solutions to this problem rely on message redundancy to mask the loss and delays. This incurs a significant bandwidth cost. We propose the forward feedback protocol (FFP) which only routes a single copy of the message and...
Overlay networks have emerged as a means to enhance end-to-end application performance and availability. Network topology plays an important role in utilizing resources in peer-to-peer systems. Epidemic algorithms are potentially effective solutions for disseminating information in large scale and dynamic systems. P2P networks are popular for their dynamicity, but they are easy to deploy, robust and...
Routing efficiency is the critical issue when constructing peer-to-peer overlay. However, Chord has often been criticized on its careless of routing locality. In this paper, we propose a topology-aware improvement on the basis of Chord, which focuses on achieving better routing efficiency. It has lower latency by appending a topology-aware Chord circle to divide topology regions. The simulation shows...
VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) is a technology that enables the routing of voice conversations over any IP-based network such as the public Internet. Separate and distinct client, gateway and call control functions that ability to support Peer-to-Peer, PC-to-telephone, telephone-to-PC and telephone-to-telephone scenarios. During transmission, the traffic loading and other factors in the IP (Internet...
Realizing on-demand media streaming in a peer-to-peer (P2P) fashion is more challenging than in the case of live media streaming, since only peers with close-by media play progresses may help each other in obtaining the media content. The situation is further complicated if we wish to pursue low aggregated link cost in the transmission. In this paper, we present a new algorithmic perspective toward...
Peer-to-Peer (P2P) technologies are considered as one of the fundamental technologies for the next generation Internet. P2P systems are classified into unstructured P2P systems or structured P2P systems depending on their topological structure of network. Most structured P2P systems are based on Chord protocol that is designed by using Distributed Hash Tables (DHTs). However, some issues have not...
In this demo we present our approach for establishing a communication channel between hosts behind a NAT-based router. To do so, we developed a peer-to-peer based variant of the STUN protocol using so-called superpeers. Using this protocol we determine the used NAT types for the hosts and select a suitable NAT traversal technique dynamically.
