This paper analyses the performance of an Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) system on invehicle power line channels. The achievable bit-rate as function of the cyclic prefix length and the number of subcarriers is obtained over a set of measured channels. Statistical results are drawn and the system parameters design is undertaken determining the values that maximize the system performance.
In this paper, we propose a novel multi-band OFDM indoor powerline communication (PLC) system. The physical layer of the proposed system consists of multi-band OFDM, convolutional encoding, Viterbi decoding, and interleaver. p-persistent CSMA/CD is adopted as the MAC layer protocol. A PLC channel model proposed by OPERA (Open PLC European Research Alliance) is considered. Taking account of the characteristics...
In this paper the effects of receiver nonlinearities are examined for clipping channels. The objective of this work is to determine the optimal receiver functions for additive noise clipping channels. In this case the optimal receiver function will be the one that maximizes the signal-to-noise-plus-distortion ratio (SNDR) between the transmitted and received variables. To solve the problem we utilize...
Frame synchronization is an critical factor for an effective operation of OFDM(orthogonal frequency division multiplexing) schemes. In this paper, we propose and analyze an efficient frame synchronization method based on m-sequence of OFDM format for high-speed power line communication systems. Repeated m-sequence is superimposed directly to OFDM frames in the time domain. By utilizing the autocorrelation...
There are today broadband power line modems available in retail stores that are based on either conventional OFDM or on Wavelet-OFDM. However, the comparison of these two multicarrier modulation techniques in the specific context of power line communications has been seldom addressed in the literature. In this paper, OFDM and Wavelet OFDM are compared by focusing on two important aspects: transmission...
