In this paper, a general scheme for a sub-THz photon counting receiver working at room temperature is presented. Its working principle is based on nonlinear up-conversion of the sub-THz signal into the optical domain. For that, a lithium niobate (LiNbO3) WGM resonator is used in a double-resonant configuration. This system has theoretically shown capabilities towards photon counting. The concept is...
Clusters of circular resonators with coupled whispering gallery modes (WGMs) have interesting spectral and optical transport properties. We employ the finite-difference time-domain method to numerically study these properties. Using evanescent couplers, we show that various configurations of cavities display distinct spectral features (mode splitting) in the vicinity of their WGMs resonances. These...
Optical resonances for Transverse Magnetic (TM) wave based on Whispering Gallery Modes (WGM) have been presented with comprehensive mathematical formulations. The present study is characterized both theoretically and experimentally by considering the fact that the size parameter of the dielectric microspheres is very large at optical wavelengths. An asymptotic expression has been developed based on...
Vibrations of NaCl-water microdroplets deposited on a vertically oscillating superhydrophobic substrate are studied using whispering gallery mode (WGM) optical spectroscopy. By monitoring the WGM width at different oscillation frequencies, lowest-order axisymmetric mechanical resonances are observed in agreement with the theoretical prediction.
In this paper propagation of light in microsphere and using it as a powerful sensor is described. A new multilayer structure sphere is proposed and its characteristic equation would be obtained. With this structure quality factor (Q) would be improved. Recent improvement in utilizing this powerful sensor with very high quality factor (Q) in biomedical and specially biophotonic is reported.
