AgCl@Ag composites with rough surfaces (RS–AgCl@Ag) were prepared by a facile one-pot hydrothermal method and characterized by SEM, XRD, DRS, XPS and EDS. The RS–AgCl@Ag showed bifunctional catalytic properties, it could catalyze not only the photodegradation of 4-nitrophenol under visible light irradiation but also the reduction of 4-nitrophenol to 4-aminophenol in the presence of sodium borohydride.
