Wireless network coding has the potential to enhance the capacity of wireless mesh networks (WMNs). However, most of the work considering the practical deployment of network coding in WMNs considers only IEEE 802.11 based medium access control (MAC) layers. The recent emergence of sophisticated MAC standards supporting WMNs (e.g. IEEE 802.16) make it necessary to view the deployment issues for network...
A fast and effective fade detection algorithm is proposed in this paper, which directly operates in compressed domain and suitable for real-time implementation. By analyzing the prediction directions of B frames, which are revealed in the macroblock types, the candidate fades can be found. Then, uncommon intracoded macroblocks of the P frame can be applied as an indicator of fade. As a result, locating...
Three applications in wireless networks where model-free stochastic learning is applicable, are discussed. The learning based optimization problems are formulated and simulation results are presented. Some open issues are also discussed.
A combinatorial problem related to storage allocation is analyzed. The problem falls into a class of NP-complete, one-dimensional bin-packing problems. We propose an iterative approximation algorithm and show that it is superior to an earlier heuristic presented for this problem. The bulk of the paper is devoted to the proof of a worst-case performance bound.
