In wireless Ad hoc networks, congestion occurs frequently at intermediate nodes when forwarding data packets between source-destination pairs. This traffic incurs higher packet loss, longer transmission delay, and faster energy resources depletion, thus degrades the performance of the network. This paper analyzes the performance of our hybrid Multipath Battery and Queue-Aware OLSR routing protocol...
Scaling to large networks and dealing with high mobility define the major challenges in designing routing protocols for Mobile Ad hoc NETworks (MANETs). These protocols must be efficient in order to ensure quality of service (QoS) support and energy efficiency. In this paper, we investigate the effect of density and mobility on routing operation on the basis of a high level of QoS jointly accounting...
To support QoS for a multimedia traffic, IEEE 802.11e standard Enhanced distributed channel access (EDCA) has been proposed. However, the EDCA is more focused on providing quality of service(QoS) solution at the MAC layer, which is necessary, but perhaps not sufficient as the layered TCP stack architecture does not satisfy the QoS demands in ad hoc network. This is due to the fact that routing protocol...
In the paper we improve QoS (Quality of Service) in the swarm of micro UAVs (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles) connected by 802.11n standard and AODV routing protocol using peer selection algorithm that is implemented at the application layer of OSI model. We compare contention-based, greedy and predictive approaches to peer selection in FANET based on Packet Delivery Ratio (PDR) in source-destination transmission...
In this paper, we present novel approaches to routing in tactical networks. We combine recent advances in OLSR development regarding modularization, scalability, extensibility, and metrics with a node architecture concept based on radio and router separation adopted to tactical networks. This node architecture consists of a single router with several external radios acting as wireless bridges and...
In MANETs, real-time multimedia applications make Quality of Service (QoS) support, a crucial issue regarding terms of increased throughput, reduced jitter and available bandwidth. The highly dynamic topology of the network, large variation of received signal strength at nodes and frequently varying link characteristics make QoS provisioning, a challenging task. Most of the existing routing protocols...
In Mobile ad-hoc networks (MANET), QoS protocols includes the intermediate nodes which have sufficient resources along the route, from source to destination. Nodes may turn non cooperative when they are running with shortage of resources, which weakens the effectiveness of the protocol. The proposed model (Uncertain Rule-based Fuzzy Logic QoS Trust Model in MANETs -FQTM) selects the nodes which are...
A Mobile Ad-hoc Network (MANET) is an infrastructure less and decentralized network which need a robust routing protocol. With the development of the MANET applications, more importance is given to Quality of Service (QoS) routing strategy. However mobility and congestion of the nodes lead to frequent link failures and packet losses affecting the QoS performance of the protocol. Taking these factors...
Providing the Quality of Service in Mobile Ad Hoc Networks (MANETs) is not straightforward due to the unstable wireless link, restricted capacity and irregular availability. It has been shown that the shortest path routing does not lead to a balanced load distribution among nodes. Instead, it offers a heavier load to the central nodes which may lead to an increase in the probability of congestion...
Network Coding is a relatively new forwarding paradigm where intermediate nodes perform a store, code, and forward operation on incoming packets. Traditional forwarding approaches, which employed a store and forward operation, suffered from the limitations of the max-flow min-cut theorem wherein sources transmitting information over bottleneck links had to compete for access to these links. With Network...
This paper presents a method to enhance OLSR quality of service. Our approach heavily relies on the binary error rate metric and allows to rise the packet delivery ratio (PDR). We find that two elements of OLSR must be changed, the MPR selection algorithm and the route computation. We show that our approach provides better PDR than the original OLSR algorithm.
Without any pre-existing fixed network infrastructure with rapid configuration of wireless connections on-the-fly, network topology in MANETs keep on changing rapidly. Thus achieving data transmissions between wireless nodes in MANETs with improved QoS parameters become a challenging issue. To achieve this one has to concentrate on the routing protocol they choose. In our paper we proposed an algorithm...
Mobile Ad Hoc Networks (MANETs) are generating a lot of interests due to 3G and 4G activities. The dynamic nature of these networks demands new set of network routing strategy protocols to be implemented in order to provide efficient end-to-end communication. Due to the diverse applications that use MANETs, such as battlefield, emergency services, and disaster discovery, MANETs offer many advantages...
Secure routing protocol attracts much more attention in mobile ad hoc networks for the purposes of secure data transmission. But the improvement of security often sacrifices the delivery rate or other QoS. We propose a secure routing protocol by integrating multipath routing and secret sharing, meanwhile, select efficient and secure multiple disjoint routes by integrating multiple metrics including...
Recently, trust-based routing has received much attention as an effective way to improve security of wireless ad hoc networks (WANETs). Although various trust metrics have been designed and incorporated into the routing metrics, as far as we know, none of the existing works have used mathematical tools such as routing algebra to analyze the compatibility of trust related routing metrics and routing...
There is an increasing acceptance for Wireless Mesh Networks (WMN) as the potential `last-mile' access technology running media-rich applications with stringent quality of service (QoS) requirements. As WMNs are envisioned to provide high bandwidth broadband services to a large community of users, the Internet Gateway which acts as a central point of attachment for the mesh routers is likely to be...
