Copper alloys: use of a classic material group for customized applications
Bronze and brass are enjoying a renaissance in recent years with an increasing number of architects, particularly in North America and Great Britain. The use of copper alloys in construction is a long tradition. Nevertheless, new manufacturing techniques like additive manufacturing or the combination of post‐processing and patination offer a wide range of design possibilities, which lead to extensive or sometimes misleading debates. This article summarizes the principles of the material group, standards and application guidelines, gives an insight into current applications with selected samples and project examples, and concludes with relevant experience when discussing the material group for cladding design.
