The CLC multifunctional ceiling – A hybrid full prefabricated element with a high flexibility and resource efficiency.
This article describes the Austrian development of a multifunctional ceiling that requires holistic planning in the sense of sustainable building concepts. It is by no means sufficient to restrict the ceiling system solely to the load‐bearing function, but it should be integrative and multifunctional. A description of all possibilities with respect to wearing properties, building physics and the integration of the building technology provide insight for the user of this new composite ceiling system. It is a steel composite construction, in which a steel well‐shaped web enables the formation of a form‐fit and composite with the aid of the prestressing and therefore has a high resource efficiency. The carrying behavior was confirmed by two large tests and they are described. The system features of the CLC‐Multifunctional‐Ceiling in conjunction with a floor structure provide insight into the very specific physical possibilities of this system. Special sound tests according to EN ISO 10142 part 2 and part 3 describe the special features. The fire protection requires separate consideration in all three zones of the ceiling. Examples of the application of the ceiling system for office and hotel use shows the numerous application possibilities of this innovative ceiling system.
