This chapter provides guidance about the opportunities and risks associated with coaching the senior executive group as it seeks greater leadership effectiveness. There are three main approaches to coaching the senior leadership team that can involve HR leaders. One may be the primary contact and guide for an external professional who is engaged to coach the team through its development at various stages. One may be the coach to the team leader who wants to be a better coach for her team, or one may be engaged to provide some team and individual coaching for their senior team. This chapter focuses most of its attention on the work you might do as a coach, but the issues and opportunities it addresses also have importance if you are providing guidance to an external professional or the team leader.
