This chapter discusses a variety of techniques to decrease the overall time required to process payroll transactions and drastically shrink the hours needed to complete month‐end payroll tasks during the core‐closing period. Many companies have highly varied and detailed commission systems, where the commission rates vary based on a variety of factors, and many invoices have split commissions assigned to several sales staff. In such cases, only custom programming or a return to manual commission calculations will be possible. The best way to resolve such issue is to simplify the overall commission structure. For calculation of commission structure, incentive/compensation management softwares, which are offered by Synygy, and Callidus Software can also be installed. One easy way to keep employees from bothering the payroll department is to include the vacation accrual in employee paychecks; however, the accrual system must be set up properly for each employee when it is originally installed.
