This chapter provides guidelines for building a cohesive project team. It commences with an explanation on how project team dynamics contribute to project success, and understanding the two major obstacles that all project teams face: project teams must solve problems together, and project teams must learn to work together. The framework addresses these two obstacles. Next, the chapter explains the factors that contribute to a high‐performance team, using a model, or framework. That framework is initially described at a high level. The chapter then explores each of the components of the framework in detail. They are positive team environment, collaborative problem solving, and leadership. Finally, the chapter explores the skills and capabilities that make up each of these components, beginning with leadership. This chapter has emphasizes that project team members are challenged to work interdependently to solve many problems. The leadership actions and team factors take energy and effort.
