This chapter presents the practical application of the morphological template‐base method and several image processing algorithms to check the availability of adapters of hard disk drives (HDDs). It also presents an automatic system development in visual inspection technology for detecting the styrofoam beads. The chapter covers the morphological template‐based method to detect the styrofoam beads inside slots of adapters from the images. The method consists of four image processing techniques: image subtraction, thresholding, morphological operation and logical operation. The chapter presents a model of a decision system deciding ‘success’︁ or ‘failure’︁ in terms of the adapter availability while monitoring each adapter via a digital camera. It demonstrates the use of the morphological template‐based method in the detection application, and then discusses the application. The chapter concludes with a comparison to the original method.
