Body image is a person's perception of how his or her physical body appears to him or her including feelings and attitudes toward it. A negative body image has been shown to affect women's health. A cognitive behavioral group intervention program called “Positive Bodies” was designed for women identifying as having body image concerns. Forty‐seven women aged 16–52 years completed the program, which targeted numerous risk factors important in the development and maintenance of body image dissatisfaction. Evaluation of the program showed improvements in body satisfaction and self‐esteem, decreases in physique anxiety, and body image distress consistent with the study's aims. Results indicate that focusing on risk factors in the development and maintenance of body image dissatisfaction is effective in improving women's body image.
