Objetivo
Determinar se a capacidade de marcha e a presença de deficiência intelectual e epilepsia da infância aos 50 anos de idade em indivíduos com paralisia cerebral (PC), e se tais mudanças se relacionam com a idade, sexo ou subtipo de PC.
Método
Este foi um estudo populacional de acompanhamento de 142 adultos nascidos de 1959 a 1978 (82 do sexo masculino, 60 do sexo feminino; média de idade 48a 4m, variação 37—58a; 44% PC unilateral, 35% bilateral, 17% discinética, e 4% atáxica ) listados no registro de PC do oeste da Suécia. Comparamos dados da infância com uma avaliação de acompanhamento em 2016.
Resultados
No acompanhamento, a capacidade de marcha mudou significativamente (p<0,001). A proporção de participantes que deambulavam sem ajuda diminuiu de 71% para 62%, e a deambulação em cadeira de rodas aumentou de 18% para 25%. A capacidade de marcha foi relacionada ao subtipo (p=0,001), mas não à idade, sexo, dor, fadiga ou índice de massa corporal. A proporção classificada como tendo deficiência intelectual aumentou de 16% para 22% (p=0,039) e a proporção de epilepsia de 9% para 18% (p=0.015). Daqueles com epilepsia na infância, 46% estavam livres de crises sem medicação.
Interpretação
A capacidade de marcha e a presença de deficiência intelectual e epilepsia mudaram significativamente desde a infância. O acesso ao longo da vida a cuidado especializado é necessário para re‐avaliação de deficiências, tratamento, e assistência.
