Seit einiger Zeit ist bekannt, dass sich Redoxreaktionen und Säure‐Base‐Reaktionen in Alginatbällchen durchführen lassen. In diesem Artikel wird ein Osmose‐Modell aus Alginatbällchen vorgestellt. Hierzu werden ca. 2 cm Zentimeter große Alginatbällchen rot eingefärbt und in hypertone und hypotone Lösungen gegeben. Sie stellen modellhaft einen Erythrozyten unter osmotischen Bedingungen dar. Die Größe und Struktur der Bällchen sind abhängig von der Elektrolyt‐Konzentration der Lösung, in der sie sich befinden. Ist diese niedrig, werden die Bällchen größer und platzen, ist sie hoch, erschlaffen sie. So können osmotische Prozesse auf makroskopischer Ebene in Schulen dargestellt werden.
