Les auteurs déterminent la vraisemblance empirique pour la différence entre deux coefficients de Gini. Pour des données indépendantes, ils proposent une U‐statistique novatrice menant à une vraisemblance empirique qui ne comporte aucun paramètre de nuisance, ce qui permet une application directe du jackknife. Pour des données pairées, ils prouvent le théorème de Wilk pour le profil de vraisemblance après avoir maximisé le paramètre de nuisance. Les auteurs présentent des simulations qui montrent que leur méthode offre une couverture semblable aux méthodes existantes basées sur la vraisemblance empirique, mais avec des intervalles beaucoup plus courts.
