This chapter presents the diagnosis and treatment for conjunctival melanomas in Canine and feline species of any breed or crossbreed. Melanomas may be associated with the ocular mucocutaneous junctions, typically presenting as firm irregular and proliferative masses. Conjunctival melanomas typically exhibit malignant behavior including aggressive local infiltration. The diagnosis of melanoma is made by histopathological interpretation of a representative biopsy sample. Treatment comprises surgical excision where possible, with or without adjunctive chemotherapy, external beam radiation, and/or “metronomic therapy” where indicated. Cranial soft tissue imaging will facilitate accurate presurgical planning if necessary. The value of vaccine‐mediated immunotherapy in the treatment of periocular lesions has not been fully evaluated.
