Communication has always been a fundamental need of human beings and human society. The technical problem of communication over long distances seemed to be solved by public availability of fixed line telephony. But obviously, the enormous personal traffic requests, the networking with large peer groups in private and business life and the close interworking of our globalized economies have taken the need of communication to unprecedented levels. Today, the telecom industry is confronted with enormous challenges of unprecedented increase in data and cost of energy in its support, which has brought the arising concerns of resource, energy and cost efficiency. The various established and emerging green technologies in the past few years have brought significant influences on the current deployed commercial networks and offered important enhancements for the future networks.
This chapter summarizes all chapters and gives an overview of topics and contributions. It further discusses whether Green Communication will have an effect on the CO2 emissions and may support other measures to reduce CO2 emissions and how currently Green Communication techniques will affect telecommunication systems. Finally, a vision on the evolvement path of telecommunication systems is presented
