Les effets de la perte et de la limitation de l’habitat sur la taille réelle de la population et sur le taux d’inbreeding (croisement d’animaux de même souche) des bouquetins d’Abyssinie (Capra walie) ont étéévalués dans le Parc National des Monts Simien. Un recensement direct complet fut fait en 2009. Les données historiques ont été obtenues aux bureaux du parc et dans la littérature. On a estimé la taille réelle de la population (Ne), le taux d’inbreeding (ΔF) et la perte d’hétérozygotie tant de l’ensemble de la population que des différentes populations dans leur habitat respectif. Les corrélations (r) entre les deux recensements directs successifs furent positives (r = 0,99, P < 0.01). Les Ne et ΔF moyens (%/an) par site étudiéétaient respectivement de 65,34 ± 59,45 et de 0,0286 ± 0,032. Le ΔF de l’ensemble de la population de C. walieétait de 0,228 ± 0,011. Le ΔFétait négativement liéà la Ne (r = −0,799, P < 0,05). Le ΔF moyen par habitat fragmenté allait de 0,3% (Chenek) à 7,7% (Buait ras). Les ΔF les plus élevés par an ont été observés à Buait ras (7,7%), à Adarmaz (7,4%) et à Sankaber (4,5%). La perte moyenne d’hétérozygotie pour l’ensemble de la population était de 0,235 ± 0,42, c’est‐à‐dire environ 23,5%. Les différences de Ne et de ΔF entre les populations des différents habitats étaient le résultat de la limitation de l’habitat, qui entraîne une réduction de la variabilité génétique et des pertes d’hétérozygotie.
