Children with Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS) in schools have specific needs that require attention to assessment, educational programming, and intervention. This paper identifies approaches to address these concerns and describes FAS in terms of the prevalence, role of the family and home environment, characteristics, and diagnosis. Functional skill deficits and behavioral problems are areas on which to focus special services. The importance of early intervention, behavioral analytic solutions, and curriculum strategies are delineated. Activities advocated for are prevention through prenatal counseling and education of adolescents. Support to FAS students from the community and school districts are also suggested.
