Migration führt nicht nur zur Abtrennung der Lebenswelt der Generationen voneinander, der Generation der zurückgebliebenen Eltern und Verwandten und der Generation der Auswanderer und deren Kinder. Migration macht die ursprüngliche Sozialisation der Auswanderer zu großen Teilen unbrauchbar, wie schon Schütz in seinem Aufsatz über den Fremden gezeigt hatte. Ein Großteil des Gelernten und Selbstverständlichen funktioniert im neuen Alltag nicht mehr. Das beginnt mit der unpassenden Muttersprache, mit nicht anerkannter Bildung und Berufserfahrung, mit falscher Kleidung und Habitus und es setzt sich in Richtung Normen, Werte und Kultur fort.
