Summary: Sustainable Development stands for the protection of life and production possibilities is the sense of a global and permanent maintenance of the environment as well as for the development and stabilization of the economic system and social behavior. Sustainable development can be understood as a development and a growth strategy which integrates economic and social sustainability considering the intragenerational and intergenerational justice. Regarding the form of the manageability several concepts of sustainability can be differentiated. As common starting point of these concepts serve scientific-ecological realizations, suggesting how to handle renewable and exhaustible natural resources as well as all further functions of the ecosphere for the economic system. In this paper three concepts are discussed, the neo-classical theory, ecological economics and evolutionary economics.
