Background
A female Patient, born 7/1953, suffers from menopausal discomfort after a history of breast cancer which was treated with surgery, radiochemotherapy and antihormonal drugs.
Aim
To relieve the patient of menopausal discomfort.
Method
Due to the lack of allopathic therapy options, the patient received ambulant body- and ear-acupuncture initially twice, later on once a week.
Result
After the initial two treatment sessions, the patient reported improved symptoms. Therapy was interrupted after 15 sessions, but complaints recurred. Therefore, we resumed biweekly acupuncture treatment and were able to keep the condition under control.
Conclusion
Acupuncture proved to be an effective method for menopausal discomfort, even after antihormonal treatment for breast cancer, and should be considered as a therapy option.
