Objective.
Recognize the importance and necessity of the economic evaluation in its incorporation into the surveillance activity for the National Health System.
Methods.
A bibliographic review of a descriptive type was carried out to find information on this subject at national and international level, which would argue the interest of incorporating economic evaluation into the surveillance system, as a working tool to guide the process of decision-making in the health field.
Results.
The economic evaluation applied to the health surveillance system should be considered as an aspect that contributes to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of surveillance activity for the health system, as it allows comparative analysis of costs and consequences (both beneficial and harmful) of the various interventions, aimed at assessing the impact of alternative actions on the health of the population.
Conclusions.
It is imperative to incorporate the economic evaluation for the health surveillance system, in order to be able to develop an effective and efficient activity in the health field, which makes it possible to guide the decision-making process for the National Health System.
