Cancer is associated with some significant psychological and social burdens. Outpatient psychosocial cancer counselling centres offer low-threshold support and assistance in all phases of the disease, if necessary, to individuals with cancer and their caregivers. The information, advice and concrete assistance provided is oriented towards the needs of the person seeking advice, and is confidential, independent and free of charge. Counselling is mainly provided by specialists in social work, psychology and medicine with an additional psycho-oncological qualification. The increasing incidence cancer, developments in oncology and the chronification of the disease contribute to the fact that outpatient psychosocial cancer counselling continues to gain in importance.
