Die New Economic Governance (NEG) in der Europäischen Union ist Kernelement eines neoliberalen Krisenkonstitutionalismus, der, an demokratischen Maßstäben gemessen, als eklatant defizitär bewertet werden muss. Eine stark normativ orientierte Kritik generiert wichtige Erkenntnisse, vernachlässigt aber die ökonomische Dimension der Demokratiebeschädigung. Aus kapitalismustheoretischer Perspektive wird die NEG als ein Produkt kapitalistischer Landnahme des Politischen und als ein Institutionensystem erkennbar, dessen Funktionslogik den Imperativen einer krisenhaften finanzmarktgeprägten Ökonomie entspricht. Insofern bestätigen sich Sichtweisen, die die Integration der ökonomischen Verursachersphäre eklatanter Demokratiedefizite als Essential einer Neufassung eines inklusiven Demokratieprojekts bestimmen. Die Arbeit an einer neuen Wirtschaftsdemokratie als Kernelement eines solchen Demokratieprojekts wird somit auch zur Forderung an eine öffentliche Soziologie, die evidenzbasiertes Wissen in gesellschaftliche Konflikte einbringen möchte.
