A large number of implants and operation techniques have improved the quality of care for injuries of the elbow over recent years. Low-profile implants of the olecranon seem to reduce soft tissue mechanical irritation. Furthermore, angle-stable coronoid plates have simplified the treatment of the anteromedial facet of the coronoid. Selected fractures of the radial head and coronoid can be treated arthroscopically assisted, whereby concomitant injuries can be detected and treated. New reduction techniques have simplified the treatment of complex intra-articular distal humeral fractures. Ruptures of the lateral ulnar collateral ligament (LUCL) after elbow dislocation can be stabilized by an additional internal bracing, which allows an early functional aftercare due to the increased primary stability.
